THE AMERICAN DREAM
The HUFFINTON POST ARTS writes: "Photographer Mike Mellia scratches through the pastel exterior of squeaky clean americans to show a shocking dystopian reality. smart phones, syringes, handguns, and stilettos populate Mellia's vision, where perfection comes at a dangerous cost."
The American Dream is an Orwellian tale of manipulation and misinformation by means of anaesthetized addiction and emotional capitulation. ironically, totalitarianism co-exists alongside an optimistic glitter of luxury. In this series, the struggle between these two sides is represented by the color palette of psychiatric green and barbie pink. In an over-medicating world of delusional distraction, the images explore if the american dream has become a perverse deformed cliche. from healthcare to education to gun control, are Americans now informed by dementing retrograde ideals ? Gallery exhibition opening: March 21, 2013, 6pm-8pm, 39 White Street, NYC
